Non-profit · Mobile Digital Forensics

A black box for the people who love you.

Proyecto BlackBox turns an ordinary smartphone into a forensic black box: a system that quietly preserves critical digital evidence during the first minutes of a disappearance, and delivers it straight to the family and investigators who need it most — before it's gone.

The Problem

By the time a search begins, the evidence has already started to vanish.

For families, the hardest part isn't just the waiting — it's not knowing. Location caches expire, nearby devices move out of range, batteries die. Every hour that passes narrows what can ever be reconstructed for the people left behind.

How It Works

From ordinary phone to sealed evidence, in four steps.

The sequence is what makes this forensic rather than just protective — every step exists to keep the record trustworthy, not just available.

1
Trigger
A disappearance is flagged — manually, by a trusted contact, or by a pre-agreed condition the user has set.
2
Capture
The device gathers location, proximity, and motion signals already available to it — nothing invasive, nothing new to the phone.
3
Seal
Every record is timestamped and cryptographically sealed the moment it's captured, so it can't be altered after the fact.
4
Deliver
The sealed record is sent, encrypted, to family members and contacts chosen in advance — before anything went wrong.
What It Reads

Signals the phone already has. We just don't let them disappear.

Location & movement
GPS traces that reconstruct a route, not just a point on a map.
Wi-Fi & Bluetooth proximity
Environmental signals that hint at where a person was, without tracking anyone else.
Gyroscope & motion
Orientation and movement shifts that flag sudden changes worth noting.
Sealed timestamps
A verifiable sequence of events, encrypted end to end from the moment of capture.
For Families

What a loved one receives — clear, human, and ready to act on.

No jargon, no dashboards to decode. Just what a family needs in the moment: where the signal was last seen, what was nearby, and confirmation that the record is sealed and real.

Proyecto BlackBox is a non-profit initiative. Built for families, funded by donors and volunteers — never sold, never monetized.

The Innovation

Not another safety app. A new category: evidence-grade preservation.

Panic buttons and location sharing tell someone that something is wrong. This tells families and investigators what actually happened — in a form that holds up.

Personal safety apps
Alert contacts that something happened, with little on the record beyond a location pin.
Data is easy to edit or dispute — it wasn't built to be evidence.
Stops at notification. The family and investigators still start from zero.
Proyecto BlackBox
Builds a timestamped, sealed timeline of exactly what the device saw before contact was lost.
Records are cryptographically sealed at capture — built to hold up under scrutiny.
Gives families and investigators a running start, closing the gap between disappearance and search.
Privacy & Consent

Built to protect the person it's meant to help — and no one else.

A tool like this only earns trust if its guardrails are as deliberate as its forensics.

Opt-in, always
Recording only activates for users who've explicitly enabled it — and it can be turned off just as easily.
User-chosen recipients
Data goes only to trusted contacts and family the user names in advance — never to a third party by default.
No silent surveillance
The system is visible to its user. It's built to protect someone, not to monitor them without their knowledge.
Time-boxed retention
Captured data has a defined lifespan and clear rules for who can access it, and when.
Nothing about others
Nearby-device signals describe an environment, not a person — third-party identities are never the target.
Revocable, end to end
Consent can be withdrawn at any time, and the system is designed to resist being forced onto someone else.
